Robobraille is a service developed by Sensus that lets the user easily convert in 4 steps a document into an alternative accessible format. It allows the users to automatically convert documents into a range of alternate media (audio: MP3 and Daisy, e-books: EPUB, EPUB3 and Mobi, and digital Braille). Additionally, inaccessible documents such as image-only PDF files, JPG pictures and PowerPoint presentations can be converted into more accessible formats.
Before joining Prosperity4All Robobraille was already a fully running service. Within P4A Robobraille has become an open source third party conversion service so that other developers can integrate this building block within their implementations. Additionally the Robobraille service has been broken down to a number of components such as the braille and ebook components. On top, within P4A you can find a Robobraille Web API that allows other services to call to the API and their documents will be converted. You can see an example of the Web Api in the Prosperity4All project site.
Additionally, Sensus and PCF (Unisubs Engine) have been working together to provide an alternate format for presentations that have videos embedded in them. In this sense, Robobraille provides an alternate format for the text and images presentation and PCF with their BB provide crowdsourcing captioning for the videos embedded.
